I never knew they even existed! Wow! They’d the perfect height for my 7yr old 😀👍 the one I’ve put the deposit on has them in the headrests, so some fiddling will be required to see if they work.
On the side steps, what rusts out ? Is it the sills, or the brackets for the side steps?
They metal under the rubber that you step on tends to rust. It’s only thin. I’m heavy though 🤣. The brackets and car are strong though. Replaced them on both my cars. If you take the mud flaps off you will see a hole in the trim, so folk leave them on. You can leave it, fit steps or swap flaps for ones not meant for steps.
The early cars have the most comfortable seats as the air bags are in the doors, not the seats, so there is more adjustability around your shoulders.

Likewise no joy. Used an acquaintance to service it in the mean time. Had the following done;
- Brake pads (front)
- Brake fluid
- front and rear diff oils
- transfer box fluids
- Gearbox service inc. filter change etc
- Battery with a new Yuasa one (low voltage reading)
- full service on the engine
- Crankcase breather upgrade to the vortex type
So as rebaselined as it can be mechanically.
Waiting on the dog guard and divider from Guardsman, fitting the boot tray today (NOS)
One small question what distance is it before the parking distance sensors start working?
It is approved for Jaguar and Land Rover repairs including dealer repairs and also does classics, mainly Minis and E-Types!
Taking the L322 up for a quote on Friday and if any good I’ll take series III as well , but anyone else close to Ilkeston might find it helpful. They have also done a Paddy Hopkirk Mini Cooper!!
I need the arches tidying on mine. But don’t know a body shop I can trust. Hopefully a good job…

Sticking rear drivers side brake calliper. Just driven back from the Bodyshop squeaking most of the way back, pressing the brake pedal stops the noise! Release it and it comes back, when I got home the heat coming from that wheel was amazing, wish I still had my pyrometer!
Just agreed to the bodywork repairs…….£1228 including a dent and paint repair to the front passenger door and wing (both small). Arch repairs are advised as rub down and paint as there’s enough metal left to work with.
We will see what’s hiding behind the sill covers and rear wheel arch liners, that’ll be extra depending on what’s in the proverbial Pandora’s box
Lastly I’ve asked for photos so people can judge their work that way it may be of use to other members. It’ll be going in on the 4th of April which will give me time to get the brake calliper sorted and a few other jobs.
Rear callipers replaced and PAS fluid. Driving a lot more smoothly after getting a lot of maintenance under its belt👍
Goes back to the garage on Wednesday to chase down;
1. Replacement front parking sensor
2. Inactive air suspension (although it’s still at the correct ride height)
3. Inactive HDC
4. Replacement rear wiper arm (it’s corroded on!
5. Front passenger side window regulator as something is causing it to stick and jerk about 1” from the top
6. Rear passenger side window switch as it’s still opening and closing on its own unless the child lock is applied
7. Air con check (regas perhaps)

Just a quick update as I packed the L322 (still working on a name for it) off to the bodyshop this morning, we shall see what is hiding behind the plastic sill and arch covers. In the mean time painting plans are rear arches as they are solid enough to repair without new metal, dent in passenger front door and front wing to be repaired and painted, and the big one repaint the entire roof as some of the paint is missing and it’s down to bare aluminium! £1950 all in…pending Pandora of course!
Recent bills;
- £320 for 2 new rear callipers and pads.
- £590 for 2 new parking sensors, 2 new ride height sensors, front passenger side window actuator and rear passenger window switch
Getting there bit by bit, quite a lot of longer term consumables needing doing and a little bit of wear and tear items.
