That’s the trouble, I don’t know if it’s actually faulty now or was before….🤣 Sorry, not helping Sam I know….

Unplugging something will def show you if it’s working or not. Just mind your fillings.

Is a ‘magic carpet ride’ a realistic expectation? I can’t see how any active suspension system can react to smooth out sudden impacts unless it has LiDAR mapping the road surface ahead of the car and pre warns the shock absorber to expect an impact. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Realistic? Probably not, its just a term often used and my car is FAR from that!

Anyway, this evening (because it was bugging me) i decided to test my theory out. So, with my trusty M27 bit i popped the connector from the top of a front strut and was met with the trusted “Dynamic Suspension Fault”.
I went for a drive, and…

Either no change in ride quality or only a small change. I drove a road i know, plugged it back in again, and drove it again to be sure.

And because there was no “wow, that is different” reaction, i conclude that my active suspension is not operating correctly. Where do i go now??? The car thinks everything is ok, but clearly not.

I suspect its a sensor similar to what Sam is considering. IIDTool is not any use here from what i am reading, so may have to go to a specialist to plug in their SSD tool (?) and hope their technicians can find something.

As before, i await the next instalment of Sam’s updates! Thumbs Up Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

The 7 digit error codes are listed in the Workshop Manual, which you have prob seen already. The diagrams show 3 sensors, along with the 4 height sensors, but then the text seems to list that a good few more sensors are used…..

I had the same issue. Turning the stability control on/off made no difference so I know it was stuck in hard

Turned out to be a failed front damper which affected the whole car. I presume it was because the car knew the ride was too harsh, was sending 1amp to the damper but the solenoid was Censored so it wasn’t doing anything. In turn the ecu couldn’t fix the issue and gave up!

I would try sending the right 1 amp PWM signal to all dampers and see if it makes a difference 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

I'd also suggest rigging a PSU up to manually open the shock valve solenoids and seeing if it softens the ride. On my Audi Allroad which had air suspension and adjustable shock absorbers you could adjust the shock stiffness.. Curiously sport was less crashy at low speeds and going over potholes etc and comfort was better at high speeds where sport was unbearably crashy which seemed the opposite of what it should have been. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Constant 12V will keep the valves open. The system can operate the valves almost 100% duty cycle (as close to 100% that a pwm signal can be generated) when required to be soft.

Hello everyone,

After a year of Bentley ownership I'm now back in a FFRR.

You may remember me as I was possibly the first to convert my CVD L322 to non CVD shocks as I found the ride to be that harsh!

On my new 2011 4.4 AB the ride was comfortable on the test drive and the following 200 miles.

I thought to myself that maybe the system on my old FF must have had a fault somewhere or been worn out as this 2011 was just fine.... UNTIL I drove over some rough cobbled country road at low speed and now its gone rock solid just like my old one!

I'm absolutely gutted. Did anyone ever figure this out?

It's almost like the system isn't adapting back.

Welcome back Mariana!

What can I say… when you go Full Fat, you won’t go back Laughing

It’s unfortunate you are experiencing the harsh ride again. It’s a frustrating issue and can appreciate why you converted to non-CVD before.
I’d love to be able to report someone found something… anything… but alas, no. Crying or Very sad

The cobbled road may point fingers to something rattling lose perhaps, but appreciate you’ve probably gained more knowledge on what it could be before paying £££ to remove the CVDs.

Good luck! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Thankyou FFRR-lover!

Yes that's what they always say. This is my 3rd one now.

Some good news is that about 100 harsh and uncomfortable miles later its adapted back to how it was. How strange?!

Will see how it goes

Well, I hope you tracked those 100 miles as a few will be having a meet up to see if theirs adapts back 🤣

That’s good news, though inconclusive fix wise…. See if anyone else’s decides to sort itself….

Even more interesting.

After approx 60 comfortable miles it's gone solid again.

I was late so driving a bit more aggressively than usual.

I wonder if it is attempting to adapt to driving style or something?

Strange.

I’ve got same wheels and tyres.

I’m pretty sure the system doesn’t learn, only reacts to inputs from the sensors.

Fffffffff…. Nearly there…..
