I was going to do a two year review… the moment passed and anyway coming up to near three in August.

So today I had the brake pads replaced by a JLR recognised indi. 29750 miles. I thought 30k was a little early to be changing.

The warning light came on just before Xmas and this was the first date mutually agreeable.
As usual I thought there would be tons of warning… actually not much.. nearly out of brake pad Shocked

The rear pads needed replacing the front are still good. The indi has had limited experience on the new L460’s , but those he has had seem to wear the rear pads first & 30k was about right. He did say the warning lights are unpredictable , sometimes lots of warning, other times not so much.. depends how the wire wiggles (technical term)

Tyres are astonishingly brilliant About half way thru their life…. Unbelievable. The boss used to work in the tyre biz in Germany, and he reackon the tyres ordered by the factories for new cars are made with a different compound. Longer lasting. I would normally be watching and considering changing tyres around the 30k something mark.

I also asked him to check the oil dilution as he was there. He said no worries it was just 2.. ( no idea of the measurement scale) . Last service was April/may 2024. It’s a two year cycle. Seems the oil dilution kit is working correctly.

Bowled into a near by dealer as passing, nice dark grey ( almost black) 350 AB with fridge on offer but the price gap tween trade in and new is too much to seriously consider… anyway mine seems (touch wood) to be functioning perfectly correctly, so why bother? Interestingly. Not that many 350 diesels around…still they wanted to deal, but I refrained. Just! . I’m pretty sure they sold the grey whilst I was there anyway.

It’s still a beautiful car all be it in black with added black & black wheels and internal leather . Not a colour I would spec before, but certainly one I would irderagain. The JLR black is really quite special with the impregnated multicolour flakes… All in all the car is doing everything it should do without a hitch. Therefore no contact with Mr Misery in my stealer, thus life and the car is good….. famous last words! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Interesting Bill.

It seems the braking system is biased towards the rears as they wear quicker than the fronts. Good news on the tyres and oil dilution though.

I agree about the cost to swap being high even though there are new RR’s being offered on AT with c£15k discounts. Probably more discount with some negotiation.

As well as the cost to swap I dislike the removal of the dial/dash buttons in MY24 onwards and find using the screen difficult if not impossible when driving. It glitches or freezes occasionally which renders it unusable which is not good when you need to access off road or even height adjustment which failed me last week when entering a car park. Give me more buttons and dials!

I’m thinking there will be a facelift around 2027 so will keep mine until that has been released before deciding whether to swap for another or try something different. Would be good to buy another diesel just before 2030. MY23 D350 HSE

They are great machines and I can now see why people just keep re-ordering them.

3 years on….. now that went with a flash.

Review….

As documented before I only really had three issues.,
The flat battery; I now put down to being left standing waiting for a part at JLR before delivery .
The back lights on recall - shrug …. Lots of new bits, there was bound to be something.
Drain leak from the Aircon. A pipe not properly connected.. All fixed and no worries.

It’s been a real treat to drive..I love the 4 wheel steer, soft closing, quietness, my first steps, shape is just really sharp if one takes time to look. As is the colour… who can believe black is actually speckled with colour.
I would NEVER EVER of specked a car in black, yet every time I take a look at what’s on offer, I’m now drawn to black with added black! Just love it… I realise that’s not everyone’s choice. Chav glass and all…fantastic!
Like all the predecessors, the car is effortless to drive, huge power even in the D300…I’m going to check the oil again shortly, but I’m hoping JLR have cracked that particular issue. I believe regen is now actioned at much lower speeds and I therefore assume more frequently…so less chances of dilution. No expert , just guessing.

I’m still startled by the take off speed, I think it’s due to the mild hybrid battery being employed from standing starts & the car is like hot mud off a shovel…
Lots of little things to make me smile …such as the rear windscreen wiper with several water jets… just clever thoughtful stuff.
Of course there are niggles… handbook, endless options on screen. I’m rarely engaging with voice controls ( can’t be ar$ed) .
Two faults in my book, the tv screen is to low… needs to be higher /closer to but not in the eye line. Renault has a screen that emerges from the top of the dash… that’s neat. The hazard button could do with being closer…it’s a long stretch & fairly small .

So going in for the MOT next week, 36,000 miles and of course a flurry of bills.
2 year extension to navigation, tracker , & remote, along with 1 year extended warranty (JLR option) , insurance, road tax etc & that’s a swift £4,000.00 + . You may recall I had an extra set of wheels just to give me a spare, wheels were in short supply and as rare as hens teeth.
I had a puncture last week and as I’m near the mot and tyres are very near needing a change , so I assume the tyres would have been another £ 1000/1200.00 (23 inch) making well over £5k on its third birthday. I should have done the man maths earlier and chopped it in & saved the 5k ; . Anyway changes at 35,000 miles , maybe they had another 1/2k on them .

Nothing is cheap about these cars! On the bright side set to go for the next couple of years as my next service is prepaid Smile . Just in time for the new model in 2027 or picking up an old /current model with a super big discount.

Owning the car so far has been a pleasure !

PS I should add, as I waited for the MOT (passed ) , I glanced at a twin brother 350/AB. With fridge… very tempted but when I ask for a trade in value , it’s 15k below Motorway. So that thought evaporated very swiftly !
If they had of offered a motorway price I might well of done the deal …. Hey ho roll on 2027! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits.
