United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

Seems strange that RRW are using now-superceded JLR oem part numbers as a reference.

Little praise can be handed to Land Rover for this latest major fiasco, however on the flip side I think I'd prefer a part with traceability and knowing it has been designed (and re-designed) with proper testing rather than an unknown part from a probable Chinese supplier that hasn't got the support of a multi national behind it for when things go wrong.

Lets not even get onto the wheel bearing and its origin!

Just by two-penneth worth L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

If you want to go the cheap Chinese route then buy them from Rangeroverworlds suppliers, loads on AliExpress starting at £200...

If you read the blurb from RRW , it's very well laid out but actually tells you little and promises even less... Pete

Now I have done both my 2016 L405 knuckles, few things I did do/change.

First bought Genuine LR Knuckles with a newer date of manufacture (2023) hoping that they have improved the quality (I know that's big ask).

Then replaced the metal bolt and the nut with a stainless steel.

Then fit a larger diameter stainless steel washers to increase the pinch surface area, so more force will get distributed at the top. tightened to 45Nm(new figure in TOPIx) NOT the 60Nm as in the old workshop manual.

Then at the end a good coating of lacquer spray to stop any water getting inside the joint. ( this will only extend the deterioration buy few months).

Stainless steel and alloy do not work well together.

Thank you, and much appreciate the advise, I thought my protective coating will stop the water getting in. I could be wrong, but I shall keep an eye.

When using dissimilar metals you need some form of barrier, not a coating done after assembly... I use Tef Gel, used widely in the marine industry.... Thumbs Up

oooooops... normally I like cracks.. but not this one!

noooo way I'm going on the Autobahn home with this. Left it at the dealer abroad, and took the plane home. They will let me know.... fingers crossed. By the way: 2015 and in the VIN range.

I checked last year, no crack, and now, this crack. It develops fast!

How are you getting on "Robbie993"? As this is not a UK registered car I wonder if the UK recall applies, even though it is within the VIN range..

Not very good. My car is in the VIN range. I noticed this crack while travelling, and left the car at a Land Rover dealership in The Netherlands. And took a plane home. Didn’t want to drive this suicide machine on the German highway home of course. The dealer contacted me today.. inspected the car and noticed the crack.. They told me they have never seen this before (yeah right..) and the recall only applies to the USA. Quoted 1600 euro for both sides. And then revoked the quote because this was only labour costs and forgot to include the parts. In total they expect 3500-4000 euro for both sides.. I will call the JLR Czech Republic, where my car is registered. Hopefully they will be reasonable. Keep you posted. By the way I was planning to buy the L460. I put this on pause now, depending on how JLR solves this issue since it is really dangerous these knuckle cracks.

Mikey posted this on the prior page - seems to clearly state its a global recall, so maybe quote the reference number when asking ?

And another one!

My my17 is being serviced by an indie and he has noticed the nearside knuckle is cracked. He’s told me not to drive it.

It’s outside the recall range.

I’m going to contact Land River tomorrow to try to get them to sort it. Wish me luck. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

I do wish you all the best

hopefully you will have more joy, than what I had from the JLR with my late 2016 .

below is what I received from them back in November last year with regards to the N759.

"Thank you for contacting Jaguar Land Rover Client Relationship Centre on 10th November 2024.

The previously mentioned campaign is not outstanding on your vehicle, therefore the works cannot be completed under the campaign code as this is not applicable to your vehicle.

We are sorry that this response is not what your looking for, we can only advise that if you remain unhappy that you can seek 3rd party advise, should that be legal or with the Motoring Ombudsman who will contact us directly should they deem it necessary."

If you look at P53 of this thread and watch the attached video round about 15 min 30, it states the affected production dates being Oct. 01, 2014 to Nov 10, 2017.
