The reason they do it nowadays is because they don’t need to redesign the entire dash fascia when they do a LCI.

Im sure the tech will be a big step forward but I have to agree that it just looks too stuck on, almost aftermarket. As Alister says it does seem to be the trend probably started by Tesla who's tech looks to be the standard. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

I agree...... To my eye it just looks more polished and orderly by being integrated.

It's almost like getting rid of the smooth clean lines and integrated appliances in your kitchen, and replacing them with large angular freestanding white goods, like a fridge freezer and dishwasher. It just feels like a step back.

On a positive note, I have to say I do prefer the central leather gearstick on the new model, if it's going to look like that of the F Pace. I've always hated the twirly gear selector on the L405. Even after several years of ownership, I'd still sometimes select incorrectly when in a rush doing a three point turn.

Overall though, I personally think the below still looks sleeker and more elegant

I don’t agree with that. First thing I noticed when I set eyes on the L405 was the rotary shifter popping up when the car was turned on. It felt so futuristic and cool. Like I was getting into a spaceship and it recognized I was ready to drive off. Super cool in 2014. Im certain I wasn’t the only one who thought this. These little touches is what separated it from the crowd. So now that’s gone plus the tailored looking dash with the built in unit. 2 steps back IMO 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

CCTV and remote parking sound good, both straight of the Tesla’s. I’m not even sure what a couple of those options are though Laughing 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Sounds like an awful lot of tech there to potentially go wrong Laughing

Also, as Jez000 says, not sure what some of those features are, with one or two of them even sounding the same!

Joking aside though, I can't argue with Adara. The spec does sound impressive and I've no doubt that the L460 will soon make the L405 feel and appear quite dated. After all, that's what car manufacturers need to do in order to keep us buying.

Although I'm still not sure it'll be enough to bother me. Despite having very expensive alternative cars available to me, I still drive my 15 year old L322 on a daily basis. It doesn't have automatic closing doors (whereas one of my other cars already does), or the very latest tech, but it feels familiar, and very much like home, so for me personally, it's not necessarily about being bang up to date.

However, with all that said, if it does completely blow me away on many levels, then I may end up eating my words, ordering one and having to come to terms with the haphazard screen.

Time will tell and not long to go!!

Yeah, I take back what I say about the new lever being an improvement, that does look a bit cheap in the video

I had remote parking on my 7 series (controlled from outside the car by the display key) and it was brilliant. Admittedly the most use it got was moving the car backwards/forwards when cleaning the wheels, but I did use it a few times to pull the car our of a space when someone had parked too close to the drivers door.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new model and I love a bit of tech, although I would be a bit concerned about it being right from day 1. Not sure I can see myself in another FF though, bought this one because I needed the rear space (seat width and centre seat headroom) and decided that if I had to have a family truck then I wanted a luxurious one. But will be interesting to try the new one. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid
