Went at her again today. Still no luck.

I got the following error codes

P1623
Immobilizer code word/ identification number write failure
B1b01: Key Transponder

Idea Gentlemen? I tried the Inertia switch reset no luck.

What do you recommend?

Possible alarm issue? - Try a different key and or try the good old battery reset - (disconnect battery etc.)

P1623 ECM Security Code Fault.

Sounds like an immobilizer issue, perhaps with the battery disconnected for so long it's lost a code somewhere.

Will the fob still lock/unlock the doors?

Does it click the steering lock off when you put it in the ignition?

I tired the physical battery reset method! So no joy there.

Regarding the key unlocking the doors, it works by pressing the button yes. I also tired the other key. It doesn't work by pressing the button but still gets the engine to turn.

It's all very strange!

That sounds like the same issue I had with my 04 although the actual electronic components maybe different. Mine would crank but not start and the only way around it was to use a faultmate or T4 to teach the engine ECU the immobiliser code. This happens if I leave my battery disconnected as when I did my transmission.
There is a rolling code on mine between the immobiliser EWS ECU and the engine ECU and without this link it will just crank but won't start so there maybe an equivalent system with the later models. If you Google L322 cranks but won't start with my user name you will probably find my threads.

The problem could be something as you describe, as it is stating an identification mis-match. However, I can't understand how this come just happen all of a sudden. I have access to the Land Rover Dealer software which I purchased years ago for an old car. This could do it, I'd just be afraid of doing something wrong!

I had the same issue with a 2006 BMW E61 520d, a relay decided to give up the ghost so communication was lost between some brains, it has a rolling code so after replacing the relay it has to be recoded (ex BMW tech with a laptop round the back of my house).

Sounds like you may have a similar issue, mine would fire straight away 9 times out of 10 but then as the relay got worse it one day decided not to fire at all and had to be recoded.

I can give you his number if you want, he's based in Kildare so not sure if he's much good to you but he might be able to give you a bit of info or point you in the right direction.

The EWS immobiliser ended in mid 2005 according to the link below which is for the faultmate manufacturer and i can't find anything about reprogramming the link on the later models in my vehicle explorer software but that is not to say you can't do it or needs to be done. The SM131 module i think is what you purchase to go with your faultmate to enable you to talk to the systems listed.
can you clear the faults with your diagnostics as after having a goggle it doesn't seem to present much of a problem when others have had that code and it has been cleared although it could get logged as as a fault when the battery gets low but not actually be an ongoing fault?

Hey Everyone.

So I think I have got to the bottom of it;

As I mentioned It has a brand new battery fitted, the old one gave up after being sat for so long.

Anyways; This new battery is draining very fast, the jump leads are getting extremely hot and it managed to blow a fuse in a van.

I now realise what has happened.... The first day I got her back I noticed a slight bit of smoke from under the bonnet. Didn't think much of it, I thought it was oil burning off after being sat for so long. It must not have been.

I think the engine loom has been damaged. According to my computer Everything on the front of the vehicle (Engine Area) is not responding correctly. The smoke came form the RH side if you were standing looking into the engine (I.E Passenger).

I'm going to look tomorrow, but my bet is on damaged loom and earthing (Hence flat battery).

Hope you get to the bottom of it, you deserve if after all the work.

Could be something as simple as a pinched wire.

Hope it's a simple fix.. Thumbs Up

The row DS2 (Front) doesn't seem to be correct. This again leads to a damaged loom.

I had a good look today lads. Couldn't see anything amiss. Checked for damaged wires and nothing I could see. I also checked all the fuses in the engine bay. I've left the battery in, so lets see if she goes flat.

She turning very well and almost starts each time. Very quick rotations. It's as if something is tell it not to fire.

The recurring error codes is

P1623 & P0500.

Speed Sensor A (What is this) and Immobilizer code word/ identification number write failure?

This whole saga is really starting to annoy me now!

Have a read here, this is what I was telling you about before when I was talking about the VSS being related to misfires, different vehicles I know, but worth a read.

If you google it there's more about it out there.
