I like the sleeve solution, I'm just concerned about what I can't see...

If the tube is badly rusted, it's not unthinkable that it could still fall away from the insert and leak water into the car.

The idea of the sleeve is that it extends inside beyond the end of the original drain hole so that if the original drain did become disconnected then the insert will hold everything in place, at least hopefully long enough until you detect it on your next regular inspection, and minimise any water ingress. _______________________________________________

I wish I could take credit for it but that belongs this chap at 'Critical Reviews' here

You can also pull the headlining away, just in front of the rear grab handle and shine a torch up to see where the rubber tube attaches.

I gave mine a wiggle - one seemed solid, the other came off Big Cry So I've cleared out all the rusty remains of the original tube that was inside it and now need to reconnect it to the insert. However, I need another bit of pipe as the insert is all that remains and is narrower than the original drain. I'm guessing a short length of the Hep20 pipe will work best Confused

I also had one that was blocked at the exit as well - that's located in front of the secondary battery. Easy to clear with a bit of strimmer cable.

Almost there.......

Hi, I was about to check the on my L405.

However, I have a fixed panoramic roof, that doesn't open. Does it have the same drains and if so how do I get access to them, if I can't open the roof?

Thanks.

OK looking at the Critical Reviews YouTube video it looks like I just have to remove the trims and I will be able to see the drains. The sunroof doesn't need to open.

I will be looking at this over the weekend.

I think that the drains are only present with the opening roof. There's no reason for them to be there with a fully fixed roof, only for the opening mechanism.

I don't actually know though, so would be interesting to find out for sure Thumbs Up

Thanks, I am guessing but I assumed the panoramic roofs are interchangeable in terms of size and just fitted into the roof. The body is probably the same though which makes me think it should have them.

Unless someone knows definitively I will have to have a look. I will put a message on here once I have had a chance to have a look.

A couple of questions though, does the epoxy need to be down the entire length of the sleeve or just the first 5 millimetres or so?

If there is some rust there I assume I need to treat the rust first. I assume a rust converter would be sufficient?

Relax, the fixed panoramic roof is bonded in, much like your windscreen, and there are no roof drains.

Phew...I can strike that from the list of things to worry about.

Thanks, Gremlin and Alister, for replying.

Does the L322 suffer from the same issue ?

I've not heard of it being talked about quite so much, I'm thinking I need to flush mine out as a just in case.
