Appreciate all the replies. My question was more intended with regards to the front of the engine already being out, if there are any obvious things to do - belts and tensioners being one of them.

I´ve had this both on Disco 4 and RR 4.4 TDV8. The water in fuel sensor goes bad. Getting a new sensor with new fuel filter housing seems to be the remedy (they are sold under 1 part number).

I strongly advice to have it fixed asap. In my case all the gaskets were parished causing enough oil to drip onto the EGR resulting in the valve sticking and was beyond repair

Did you check heat shields?

I have the same symptoms but they are between 1000 and 1200 rpm.

Can best describe it as similar droning noise as when a wheel baring is bad...
